Do you feel like life is overwhelming?

Out of control?

Always feeling on edge?

You feel like everything is falling apart?

?

Are you feeling down?

Experiencing decreased energy?

Losing interest in things you used to enjoy?

Worrying all the time?

Are you feeling disconnected from relationships?

Disconnected from yourself?

From life?

Stuck in your head?

Since you are reading this far, I’m just going to assume you relate to at least one of the above statements. If so, there is hope!

Do you want to be able to say?

Now I feel more in control of MY life.

I’m better able to handle stress so I can live the life I want.

I don’t have to worry about everything.

I’m feeling reconnected in my relationships.

Not stuck in my head all the time anymore.

I’ve noticed I have a lot more energy and can do the things I want to do.

Finally, I feel like myself again.

Wow! Life is pretty good right now!

That’s where

I come in…

My name is

Jamie M. Przybylski

My name is Jamie M. Przybylski and I’m a Licensed Therapist in the states of Iowa and Nebraska. You may be having some difficulty pronouncing my last name – pretty much everybody does – it’s Shuh-bell-ski. Easy, right? You can just call me Jamie.

Why I Do What I Do

The main reasons I started in the field of mental health are based on my experiences growing up and throughout my life.

My brother has schizophrenia, which was diagnosed when he was about 19 y/o. I’m nine years younger, so I just thought he was strange. However, when I learned it was a mental illness, I realized there was a career that specialized in helping people like my brother and their families.

The other major reason is I have experienced depression and anxiety off-and-on for much of my life. I struggled with it for a long time, still do at times, but have learned many ways of managing my emotions and ways to cope with life. I understand how hard it can be!

Over the Years

I’ve been in this field for over 25 years – wow, guess I’m not as young as I think I am. The way I’ve done therapy has changed over the years with new trainings, life experiences, and learning from the many clients I have seen throughout the years.

I try to constantly learn and grow when it comes to how I do therapy; however, I don’t want to become stuck in my ways just because that is what I learned or have done for so long.

I strive to constantly adapt to new information and evidence-based practices. I am learning new things all the time.

The Best I’ve Been

Because of this, I believe the way I’m doing therapy now is the best in my entire career.

I don’t act like I’m the authority on your life, because I’m not – YOU are! We work together in sessions as collaborators.

I use self-disclosure as a way of normalizing life’s difficulties to help you navigate life more effectively.

My clients often tell me, “You’re not what I expected,” – I sure hope that’s a positive thing – referring to the “stereotypical therapist” you see on TV.

Most people find me easy to relate to, which is great since I am a therapist. I’m laid back and typically easy going; however, at the same time, I’m candid in sessions and will help push you forward in the psychotherapy process.

We’ll use everyday language, not clinical jargon. I tend to use humor, because who doesn’t like to laugh? Plus, laughing is good for us!

Therapeutic Relationship

I believe the most important aspect of counseling is the relationship. Anytime someone asks me about starting counseling, I tell them the number one thing to look for is how you connect with the person, whether that is with me or another therapist.

Do you feel a positive connection?

You feel like you can trust that person?

Think it’s a good fit?

Is their personality something that resonates with you?

Go with your gut!

I suggest to my clients to not continue working with me if they don’t feel like it’s a good fit. I won’t be offended or upset in anyway, I only want what is best for each individual.

Let’s face it, I’m not a fit for everyone. There isn’t a therapist that’s a fit for everyone.

This is something I think is incredibly important. The importance of connection is why I offer a free consultation to begin to explore if I’m the right fit for you, and if you are the right fit for me.

My hope is that when we do psychotherapy together you will find the experience a positive thing in your life, maybe not comfortable, but still positive.

I believe therapy provides people with an opportunity to meet with a professional that is completely unbiased.

You can talk to friends, family members, or co-workers which can be helpful, but they all have some sort of bias, because they know you – it’s not possible to have an unbiased conversation with them. In therapy you do.

It’s all About You

Another aspect of counseling I think is important, is counseling is about being focused on what you have to say.

Just you for the entire duration of the session.

How often do you get 100% attention anywhere else?

Safe Place

Therapy creates a safe environment where you can say whatever you want without worrying about hurting anyone’s feelings, worrying someone will find out, or worrying about being judged – trust me, I’m the last person to judge others.

This is where you can be completely honest with another person and yourself.

It’s a safe place where you can say things you’ve never told anyone else – I’ve heard countless stories the person has only ever told me.

Let me say, I feel honored that someone can tell me these stories, because I think it’s incredibly unburdening to be able to let these deeply hidden pieces of ourselves out.

I feel privileged that I can help people with letting it out.

Self-Assessment

Another great aspect of psychotherapy is the personal exploration that occurs during the process. It’s definitely a scary process, but it can be so rewarding to get to know yourself better.

It’s a deep dive within ourselves, and then taking an honest assessment of who we are.

This creates a lot of different emotions, but the better we know ourselves, the better informed we will be about what drives us.

This plays a huge role in the choices we make. When we know this, we can make more informed decisions in life – it doesn’t mean we will always make the “right” decision, but we will be able to make a decision with more information about ourselves and life.

Plus, there is no “right” decision in the moment. We make the best decision we can at the time.

Then we find out later how great it was, or maybe not so great, but at least we have more awareness.

This increased awareness of who we are often leads to making better decisions.

One more thing

The final thing I’ll say about therapy is it allows you to learn new ways of coping, interacting, experiencing, and being in day-to-day life.

It’s about learning to optimize your life.

There are so many things we can learn through therapy. I will, of course, not list them all here. That would be a lot of reading; plus, if you choose to work with me, you’ll learn lots of them, and I will learn from you too.

We can all benefit from learning new ways of coping with all the stress in life we have now.

It’s important to improve our lives by learning new ways to interact with others.

Learn to experience life in a new way.

Everyone can benefit by learning how to just focus on the moment a little better and just be.

So, that was quite a bit about me and my view on therapy.

Here’s a little personal info about me

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA, but now I live in Nebraska.

I’ve been here 18 years now. I miss the ocean and the mountains but not the cost of living. I miss all the things you can do in Southern California but not the amount of people – talk about traffic jams!

I’m an avid LA Kings hockey fan, but I can barely ice skate! I love music, but I can’t play an instrument or sing.

Guess I better learn to skate better or play an instrument, because, according to my kids, I can’t sing.

My favorite color is purple.

I enjoy reading, meditation, photography, learning new things, traveling, and watching great TV shows.

One of my favorite places I’ve been to is the Sequoia Giant Redwoods in California.

There are many places I would love to visit all over the world, but for now, I guess using Google Earth will have to suffice.

My dream is to be able to travel and continue to be able to provide therapy.

Hopefully, Online Therapy will lead me to my dreams, and you can be a part of it.

Now for the

Boring Stuff –

But Still Important

I received my Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from National University in California and my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology from The University of California at Irvine.
