No need to leave your home, office or wherever you are - let's do Online Therapy now Contact Me NowClient PortalWhat is Online Therapy?
Online Therapy is known by many names. I will mostly refer to it as Online Therapy throughout this website, but it all has the same meaning. Here are some examples of other names:
- Skype Counseling
- Teletherapy
- Telemental Health
- Online Counseling
- E-Counseling/E-Therapy
As I’ve already pointed out, Online Therapy is convenient! You don’t even need to leave the comfort of your own home if you don’t want to. I try to make it as convenient as I can by offering multiple ways for you to do Online Therapy with me.
Online Therapy Options
Live video conferencing
The first option is you can choose live video conferencing which is the most similar to an in-person session. All you need to do is turn on your computer, tablet, or cell phone and connect with me via the Internet.
You can access this through your client portal. We will be able to see and hear one another just like being in the same room.
Telephone
Another option available is calling me by phone. This can be less anxiety provoking for you if you don’t prefer “face-to-face” conversations very much.
Call me directing at our scheduled appointment time, and I’ll answer the phone myself. It’s as easy as calling a friend.
Messaging
The final option is to message me via my secure online messaging platform. You’re able to access this via your client portal, just like for video conferencing.
With this option, you’re able to send me messages directly, just like texting, but in a secure way. There’s also an option of sending messages when it’s not a scheduled appointment anytime throughout the week. This is called asynchronous messaging.
I will respond when I’m available. This would be similar to email exchanges, but instead of using email, I use this secure messaging format to better protect your information.
We are technologically savvy
Many of us are very comfortable with being online and connecting with others via all the different options that are out there.
That’s why I thought I’d offer Online Therapy. It seems that many of the things we do are technologically based, so why not therapy?
As technology has advanced, it has become faster, more efficient and able to protect your confidentiality. Plus, this technology is continuing to advance, so it can only get better.
My thinking is that we are often very busy and don’t take the time for ourselves that we need.
Online Therapy will help bridge the gap between not having time, to finding the time, because it’s more convenient, more accessible, and just as effective as face-to-face therapy.
Why Should You Do Online Therapy?
In one word, convenience!
There’s no need to commute to an office, wait in the waiting room with other people, and then quickly commute back all stressed out from hurrying.
That can negate the positives of the therapy session. What’s the point of that?
Instead, all you have to do is engage in therapy through the Internet from the convenience of your home, office, or any other private location via computer or cell phone.
Yep, it’s that convenient!
Let’s face it, we are all extremely busy.
There are so many things we do that keep us going all the time.
I work long hours.
My job is way stressful.
There’s no way I could ever fit therapy into my schedule.
I need to drive my kids from event to event – ugh, I have too many kids.
There’s always something that needs to be done.
I have to cook dinner…I have to mow the lawn…I have to go buy groceries…I have to wash the truck…I have to…
Wait, did I forget about keeping a relationship going, or for that matter, finding one?
I need to take care of everyone else first, that doesn’t leave anytime for me.
If you’re experiencing high stress, anxiety, depression, or other issues, it may be even more difficult for you to go to an office for traditional face-to-face therapy.
You may be feeling a lack of motivation, apathy or low energy making it even less likely you will go to an office for a therapy appointment.
The anxiety is too much to handle to the point you can’t leave the house without having a panic attack.
You may have social anxiety which makes in-person therapy more difficult for you, so Online Therapy may be perfect.
You may be feeling so down that it seems overwhelming to think about driving to an appointment at an office, to meet with a stranger, to talk about how you’re feeling – sometimes Online Therapy can decrease this overwhelming feeling.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE THERAPY?
No need to worry about the weather, traffic delays, or canceling your appointment.
If you’re not feeling well there’s no need to cancel your appointment, because therapy is from the convenience of your own home.
If you’re reluctant to see a therapist, then meeting via the Internet is often easier to do.
If you’re apprehensive about the whole thing, Online Counseling may offer you more anonymity which often decreases your concern about whatever aspects of therapy you are worried about.
If you live in a remote area where you don’t have access to quality services, or any services for the matter, Online Therapy is a great option for you.
Another benefit is no worry about anyone seeing you at a therapist’s office – complete confidentiality.
Whether you live in a small town where everyone knows everything about each other, or you live in a larger city, everyone has the same anonymity doing Online Therapy.
If you travel a lot or aren’t able to get to places easily – Online Counseling is for you.
If you are from the United States, and you are living abroad and would like to meet with a counselor in the states – perfect.
Plus, it’s just cool to say you’re in therapy via online technology.
